Life in Savannah is better lived outdoors! This city offers a variety of scenic trails just waiting for you to take a hike! Here’s just a few Savannah trails that you’ll absolutely love hiking on!
Skidaway Island has many trails that are great for short hikes. Located near the Skidaway narrows, which is a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. On a typical hike, you will likely see deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets, etc. Inside the park’s building, you can find many reference books, a reptile room and a 20- foot Giant Ground Sloth. This park has four different trails that are all relatively short hike.
Wormsloe Historic Site has a gorgeous nature trail that begins under a trail of live oaks and leads you to the tabby ruins, the Jones family gravesite and some areas of the marsh. On certain days, there are special events and reenactments for all to see. There have been a few movies filmed along here such as the Last Song and The General’s Daughter.
Rails to Trails McQueen’s Island Trail is a six mile section that was converted to a bike/ hiking trail in the 1990’s. This is a unique trail because of the palmetto- lined trails and the views of the marshlands. Access and parking is at Fort Pulaski near Tybee Island and Savannah.
Tom Triplett Park is a 6 mile loop located in Pooler. Along with the 6 mile loop is also a paved 1.5 mile loop around the lake. Dogs are welcome on the trail!
Savannah and Ogeechee Canal is Located just off of highway 204 a few miles west of 1-95, the Savannah and Ogeechee Canal is a great place to take a peaceful stroll off the beaten path. The canal was constructed back in 1831 to connect the Savannah and Ogeechee rivers. Today, the hiking trails in the area are traversed by outdoorsmen and women daily.
