Each year we coordinate a Neighborhood Food Drive to benefit the I Am Food Pantry at St. Michael’s church (right next door to our office). And each year, this food drive has grown larger and larger. What began in 2015 with 1,800 homes has since grown to over 3,000. Our team and a handful of volunteers supply the man power to assemble, deliver and pick up the bags. We hand deliver each bag to the door of each house in the neighborhoods surrounding our office and then return a couple weeks later to pick up the filled bags.

“I AM” FOOD PANTRY

The I Am Food Pantry supports 50-70 people per week, which translates into 500-600 people per month when you include family members.

“We offer our guests an opportunity to come in and sit for a minute, have a cookie and cup of coffee and tell us about what’s going on in their life. We know most everybody by name and we truly care about what is going on in their life.  They tell us about their families, their health, and often about their troubles, and we add their names to our prayer list and pray for them. When possible we connect them to services to help with their needs.  We also have a book mobile where our guests can take free books home to read. Our food pantry name “ I AM” comes from the scripture in Matthew:  In As Much as you have done it to the least of these you have done it unto me.  We take this special evangelism through hospitality very seriously.”

How You Can Help

Assemble Food Drive Bags – Pick up a bundle of 100 bags and flyers to take home. Just a quick set of staples on the front and the back and that’s it. This is a great activity to do as a family or as community service for High School Students. All assembled bags are to be returned the week before Thanksgiving.

Deliver Food Drive Bags – Let’s get those steps in! Walk door to door delivering empty food drive bags to neighbors. We do this over the course of 2-3 days.

Collect Food Drive Bags – Be prepared to lift bags of up to 20lbs, climb in and out of trucks, and carry filled bags up two flights of stairs. On this day we go through the neighborhoods collecting filled bags from front porches and then delivering them to the Food Pantry.
