To really experience Savannah be sure to check out all of these local favorites that are off the beaten path!

Off The Beaten Path

Oatland Island Wildlife Center is a 2 mile nature trail that takes you through many animal exhibits, including bobcats, owls, alligators, etc. This is a unit of the Savannah-Chatham County School System, which allows students to learn through an hands-on experience. They hold many events throughout the year that you won’t want to miss.

Off the Beaten PathSavannah Bee Company, Wilmington Island location, allows for guests to learn absolutely everything about the bees- from pollination, behaviors, beekeeping, honey, beeswax, etc. When in the bee garden, the beekeepers will show you around and teach about the inside of a beehive. Before you go, be sure to taste all of the different honeys while getting to learn about the origin, flavor and food pairings! We suggest the Caramel Honey!

Off the Beaten Path

Not on Wilmington Island but still want to go to the Bee Company? Savannah Bee Company, on Broughton Street, offers a mead tasting that is definitely a MUST do in Savannah! Through the tasting, you will sample six different meads as the experts talk to you about them as you go. Love mead? Be sure to grab a few bottles to take home with you.

Off the Beaten Path

Another favorite that not many people know about is Butterducks Winery! Savannah National Wildlife Refuge is a great place to spend the day enjoying the outdoors. Wildlife can be seen throughout any part of the year. Laurel Hill Wildlife Drive is a 4-mile loop that can be driven or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike or bike too! Be sure to bring your camera or cell phone because the American alligator is known to be seen along with many others. Keep your eyes on the sky too because there are TONS of birds around.
