As Independence Day rounds the corner, thousands of visitors are flocking to Savannah to spend the Holiday Weekend. Savannah has something for all visitors, so as your experts on all things local, we here at Team Callahan have compiled a list of kid-friendly activities for this upcoming weekend!
Fireworks
You can’t do 4th of July without fireworks! Savannah has several spots to watch fireworks all across town, so whether you’re on the island or staying downtown, the nearest firework watching spot is likely only a short walk from you. Here’s all the information on where you can find fireworks of July 4th, 2022:
Savannah River Fireworks- July 4th, 2022 9:00 pm-11:00 pm
Fireworks will be launched from a barge in the Savannah River directly across from Plant Riverside. These can be viewed from almost anywhere in downtown Savannah, but we really recommend watching them from River Street or on the Plant Riverside rooftop bar.
Tybee Island Fireworks- July 4th, 2022 9:00 pm-10:00 pm
Fireworks will be launched from the Tybee Pier. Make sure you’re on the beach of the east side of the island to get the best view! There’s plenty of street parking along Butler Avenue and main residential streets.
The Great Outdoors
Savannah is home to countless green spaces and parks, so be sure to check out the Hostess City’s natural beauty in the great outdoors! You can find endless running routes, fountains, playgrounds, and historic statues. Here are a couple of our favorites:
Sweet Treats
If you have a sweet tooth, you’ve come to the right place. Savannah is home to several must-try candy and ice cream stores. At many stores, they’ll make all kinds of candy, including River Street Sweet’s world famous pralines, right in front of you! Here are our top picks:
Beach Day
One of the great things about Savannah is that we have our own beach just a short drive away. Tybee Island is THE SPOT for 4th of July weekend in Savannah. Tourists and locals alike make the drive out to Tybee to spend the holiday in the sun and the sand. A spot to definitely try is Newkirk’s Creamery, Tybee’s newest ice cream joint.
